Our client, a respected independent school, is seeking an experienced Controller to join its Business Office team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer , this is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, financial reporting, budget support, audit coordination, payroll processing, and internal controls. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys partnering across an organization and contributing to a mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
Lead monthly and year-end close processes and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
Prepare financial statements, dashboards, reconciliations, and management reports
Support budget management, including reporting, variance analysis, and communication with budget owners
Coordinate audit preparation and assist with compliance reporting, including annual filings
Reconcile key accounts, including cash, investments, interfund balances, and fixed assets
Recommend and implement improvements to accounting procedures, systems, and internal controls
Partner with the CFO on special projects and ongoing financial initiatives
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
Experience with audits, budgeting, and account reconciliations
Advanced Excel skills and strong overall Microsoft Office proficiency
CPA, nonprofit or education experience preferred
