Job Title: K-12 District Library Media Specialist
Classification: Certified
Supervisor: Director of PK-12 Literacy or Designee

Summary: The K-12 District Library Media Specialist will provide direct support for all district Media Assistants and Media Center Technicians on a rotational basis for the following areas: Communication regarding duties and work environment, instruction and supervision for ordering, collection maintenance according to building needs (including discarding outdated/damaged materials), adherence to budget, assistance in monthly district meetings, communication or relevant library media information, communication with district supervisors, and building principals. The K-12 District Library Media Specialist will also design and support the district curriculum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Library Media Center Organization and Management.

Supports the district in providing a coordinated and consistent media program.

Helps develop and maintain district goals for media services.

Assists the principal in the direction of duties for media assistants.
-
Assists the principal to develop, justify, and administer the school’s library media center’s budget.
-
Participates in curriculum design by serving on the district level team.
-
Keeps current on new technology related to media services and integration.
-
Keeps current on instructional materials related to core courses (English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Science).
-
Integrate the library program with district curriculum and technology initiatives and standards.
-
Promotes and guides literature selection by facilitating the book selection committee.
-
Collaborates with each media assistant in the maintenance of library print materials, software, and hardware.

Provides training and information regarding the duties of the media assistants.
-
Provides lesson plans aligned to the library standards and coach media assistants in lesson delivery.
-
Assist media assistants to establish and maintain efficient library procedures including circulation, shelving, and retrieval of books and materials.

Maintain a media center digital resource hub.

Will consult their supervisor and/or the building principal, and provide guidance to Media Technicians for purchasing items within the budget.

Maintains appropriate records.

Performs any other duties the Director of Curriculum may assign.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The District Library Media Specialist is responsible to the Director of Curriculum, Assessment, and Talented and Gifted Programs and each building principal. Program direction will be provided by the Director of PK-12 Literacy, or designee, and the designated advising building principal.

Experience:

Successful classroom teaching experience with experience in library media center management preferred.

Experience integrating library media skills curriculums into the instructional program, supervision of volunteers and assistants, and public relations.
Education and/or Experience: Must be eligible for or possess the appropriate license by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for assignment as a teacher with an endorsement in Educational Media or equivalent.
