The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of buildings, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment. This position requires a broad range of maintenance skills, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections of facilities, equipment, and systems.
- Complete preventative maintenance tasks according to established schedules.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical issues.
- Perform general carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and minor construction work.
- Maintain building interiors and exteriors, including grounds and common areas.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations.
- Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance vehicles safely.
- Replace lighting, filters, fixtures, and other building components as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Assist with special projects, renovations, and facility improvements.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors when necessary.
· May be asked to perform other duties in other departments as assigned by supervisor or manager.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of maintenance, facilities, or related experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license may be required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment.
- Ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations outside normal working hours when required.
