ATHLETIC DIRECTOR: SCHOOLCRAFT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Junior/Senior High School Principal, the Athletic Director will lead the Schoolcraft Community Schools athletic programming toward local, regional, and state-wide excellence. The Athletic Director will conduct annual evaluations of all Varsity coaching staff, lead efforts in developing our student-athletes as school, community, and league leaders, and establish a vision for excellence in Schoolcraft Community Schools athletic programming.

EXCELLENCE IN ATHLETICS:

Develop our coaching staff through evaluation, feedback, and establishing a vision for a shared vision for a coach at SCS.

Grow and develop Varsity and sub-Varsity coaches for advancement in the Department, investing in their leadership aligned with the District and Department’s vision for excellence.

Attract, retain, screen, and develop high-quality coaches of character, influence, and positivity within SCS athletics.

Facilitate annual Student-Athlete Handbook review in collaboration with SCS and community partners.
-
Continue ensuring all athletic programs have in-season and out-of-season strength and conditions programs facilitated by the SCS Strength Coach.

Collaborate with Athletic Trainer to ensure proper scheduling, support, and coverage at home and away events.

Develop a Student-Athlete Advisory Counsel to enhance leadership development, communication between athletic programs, and amplify extracurricular athletic enthusiasm and participation.

Enhance our student-led cheering section that compliments our band and cheer team with behavioral expectations, student-leaders, and an Athletic Director-involved communications process for approving, coordinating, and facilitating student involvement at home and - as needed - away athletic contests.

COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE:

Represent SCS Athletics in league meetings and the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA)
-
Attend and represent SCS Athletics at Athletic Booster Club meetings.
-
Represent SCS at home and away postseason tournament contests.

MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS:
-
Recruit and develop game-day staff, including event supervisors, ticket-takers, and other essential operations of on-site events.
-
Collaborate with the Concessions Manager by providing all home-games dates to ensure home-game coverage.

Maintain, establish, and communicate an annual budget for athletic-related expenses and facilities maintenance projects to SCS Central Administration and the Jr/Sr High School Principal.

Establish a schedule for equipment replacement and updating while ensuring all equipment meets safety standards.

Ensure event facilities are maintained, organized, set up, and properly staffed for all athletic events.

Develop fundraising program with opportunities through athletic sponsorships for all athletic teams.

Facilitate annual sports season scheduling in collaboration with our Administrative Assistant, communicating season openings, cancellations, and reschedulings to pertinent staff, parents, and opposition.

Facilitate weekly academic eligibility and daily attendance eligibility checks in conjunction with the Attendance Administrative Assistant.

Facilitate and communicate away event transportation itineraries in conjunction with SCS Director for Transportation.

Coordinate facility use with the District's Facility Use Coordinator to ensure middle school and high school athletic programs have priority over non-school-related programming.

Coordinate with coaching staff for special events, connecting with alumni for special occasions, ensuring they understand their involvement in special events.

OTHER DUTIES:

Perform other duties as assigned by Jr/Sr High School Principal or from District Central Office Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
All applicants will hold, or be in the process of obtaining, a K-12 Administrative Certification, certification(s) through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), or have a degree and experience in athletic administration.
