MECHANIC I
DUTIES AND FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The employee in this class performs routine tasks in the proper care and preservation of
County property and mechanical equipment; secures and replaces damaged equipment as needed. The employee will work under general supervision of the department supervisor.
This position requires weekend and holiday work as well as participation in the twenty- four (24) hour on-call rotating schedule.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Assists in the repair of mechanical equipment; securing parts; maintains pumps and valves; works on county-owned vehicles; assists with mechanical and plumbing maintenance; keeps track of inventories; keeps logs and worksheets; reads meters; inspects equipment frequently; performs other related tasks as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of mechanical and vehicle repair; knowledge of equipment used to maintain the above; resourcefulness and ingenuity; ability to trouble shoot and evaluate problematic equipment; ability to recommend a course of action for repairs both verbally and in writing
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum High School Diploma or GED with any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; ability to obtain a valid Class CDL “B” driver’s license; ability to meet through evaluation and testing requirements designation as a qualified boom truck and/or certified crane operator; excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of Microsoft
Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

County property and mechanical equipment; secures and replaces damaged equipment as needed. The employee will work under general supervision of the department supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in welding, plumbing, tractor, truck and car repair with prior experience in the field of mechanics; possession of a valid Class CDL “B” driver’s license; excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word,
Excel).
