Position Responsibilities:
As a Staff Accountant, you will provide crucial support for healthcare and government program engagements by ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of financial data and processes. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing Medicaid provider cost reports and related financial documentation.
- Analyzing healthcare provider financial data, evaluating it for accuracy, reasonableness, and compliance with Medicaid and other government program requirements.
- Performing complex reimbursement calculations in accordance with Medicaid and relevant regulations.
- Conducting thorough desk reviews and participating in on-site audits as needed to assess program compliance.
- Managing all audit phases, including planning, conducting risk assessments, executing fieldwork, developing audit findings, and preparing final reports.
- Researching healthcare billing, reimbursement, and compliance standards set by Medicaid, federal, and state authorities.
- Reviewing and interpreting federal and state regulations and policies relevant to each engagement.
- Documenting audit findings and professional judgments in detailed, well-organized workpapers in accordance with applicable industry standards.
- Maintaining secure and accurate records for all documentation and work performed, adhering to professional, regulatory, and organizational standards including those set by the AICPA.
- Compiling, analyzing, and reporting financial and operational data for a variety of audiences.
- Identifying and recommending opportunities to improve audit processes, documentation, and analytical methods.
- Safeguarding confidential, sensitive, and protected health information at all times.
- Effectively managing multiple projects, shifting priorities, and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Handling additional responsibilities as assigned to continuously support team and client objectives.
Essential Skills, Experience
To excel in this role, you must demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline.
- Strong foundation in accounting principles, financial analysis, and audit practices.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly with complex healthcare reimbursement and compliance issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism in documentation.
- Ability to manage numerous assignments, prioritize competing deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated capacity for research and interpretation of regulatory requirements and statutory guidance.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and adaptability in a dynamic work setting.
- Ability to travel as required based on business needs.
Qualifications:
- Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- CPA certification or working toward CPA status is highly desirable.
- Internship or prior experience in accounting, auditing, healthcare finance, or a related compliance environment.
- Experience in healthcare auditing, reimbursement calculations, and reviewing cost reports is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, and other government healthcare programs is a plus.
- Working knowledge of audit process documentation and related professional standards (including AICPA guidelines) is preferred.
