Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments to determine suitability for IV therapy and related treatments.
- Administer IV infusions, injections, and medications following aseptic technique and safety protocols.
- Educate patients on IV therapy procedures, potential side effects, and post-treatment care instructions.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Monitor patient responses during treatment, managing acute pain or adverse reactions promptly and effectively.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control standards during all patient interactions.
- Manage medical supplies and equipment, including sterile processing and catheter care supplies, ensuring readiness for each visit.
Skills
- Proven experience with IV infusion, venipuncture, and catheter care in diverse clinical settings such as hospital medicine, outpatient clinics, or home care environments.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to infusion therapy and medication administration.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and vital signs assessment efficiently in mobile or home settings.
- Excellent patient communication skills with the ability to educate and comfort individuals receiving treatment.
- Critical care experience including ICU or emergency medicine is highly desirable for managing complex cases.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for safe procedures.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations such as seniors in assisted living or memory care facilities is a plus.
- Ability to adapt quickly to different environments while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care quality.
