We are looking for a part-time Staff Accountant to support a healthcare organization in New Orleans, Louisiana through a long-term contract assignment. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys owning core close activities, strengthening financial accuracy, and contributing to management reporting in a fast-paced environment. The position works closely with accounting leadership on reconciliations, financial statement support, compliance activities, and process-focused accounting operations.
Responsibilities:
- Create and post journal entries across key accounts while ensuring supporting documentation is complete and accurate.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts such as cash, prepaid expenses, payroll, and intercompany balances to maintain reliable financial records.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles by preparing workbooks, reviewing account activity, and resolving variances on schedule.
- Develop management reporting analyses for balance sheet and income statement activity to help leadership understand financial performance.
- Maintain fixed asset records, calculate depreciation, and track lease-related schedules and recurring payment obligations.
- Assist with internal control and compliance activities by following established accounting procedures and supporting audit readiness.
- Prepare financial statement support, cash flow information, budgets, and other reporting packages required by internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to special projects and ad hoc analysis, including department initiatives and process improvements related to accounting operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline is preferred.
- At least 2 years of hands-on accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of journal entries, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end close procedures.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and solid proficiency with other standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while meeting critical reporting deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience with ERP or accounting platforms such as NetSuite or BlackLine is an advantage, and background in a publicly traded environment is a plus.
