A Research Assistant position is available in the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Imaging in the Department of Radiology at the University of Iowa. The position supports a broad research program in the Moreira Bello Laboratory, with focus on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) acquisition, image processing and artificial intelligence (AI) systems. The person is expected to support multiple research projects through the collection of data, analysis, and scientific development of the projects.
Position Responsibilities
Research
- Performs research activities based upon protocols developed by other research staff or principal investigators of the research project. Reads and review articles as directed.
- Analyzes literature to develop hypotheses for discussion with other researchers
Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations
- Reads and understand protocols. Arranges and plan daily activities to prepare for research protocols
- Sets up and operates research materials or equipment. Performs procedures assuring fidelity to protocols
- Recruits, consents, and enrolls research subjects; performs various tasks in the research environment (lab, clinic, field, classroom)
- Adheres to safety and compliance guidelines
- Collects, records, and consolidates data as directed by the Principal Investigator
- Tracks the progress of research activities
- Adheres to Quality Assurance protocols to maintain the validity and integrity of research data
- Troubleshoots, analyzes, and proposes modifications to protocols; performs complex techniques per protocol; tests and evaluates current procedures
- May present results at team and departmental meetings;
Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications
- Collects and tracks data
- Performs data entry for reports and maintains records of methods used
- Prepares materials for reports
- Contributes to the technical writing of papers, manuscripts, grant applications and published materials
- Presents results/findings at team and departmental meetings
Administrative and Project Management
- Makes recommendations regarding the validity of research subjects and data.
- Submits routine IRB, ACURF or similar protocol submissions, if applicable.

Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Radiology, Radiologic Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum (1-3 years) experience conducting clinical research
- Experience participating in clinical research studies
- Experience in thoracic/chest imaging
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with self-motivation and working independently.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability for successful teamwork.
Desirable Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Radiology, Radiologic Science or related field
- Working knowledge and experience with CT (Computed Tomography) technology
- Working knowledge and experience with MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) technology.
- Experience publishing articles, books, or other scientific research related to Radiology
