Join our dynamic team as a Pipe Yard Crew Chief, where you'll lead daily yard operations while actively supporting material handling activities. In this hands-on leadership role, you will oversee a team of yard associates, coordinate workflow, and ensure the safe and efficient movement of inventory throughout the facility. You will operate material handling equipment, including reach trucks, forklifts, and clamp trucks, while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise daily yard operations, assigning tasks and monitoring team performance.
- Train, coach, and support yard operators and associates to ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
- Safely operate material handling equipment, including reach trucks, forklifts, Hi-Lo forklifts, and clamp forklifts.
- Load, unload, move, and organize materials while maintaining accurate inventory control.
- Coordinate shipping and receiving activities by verifying incoming and outgoing shipments against documentation.
- Monitor inventory levels, assist with cycle counts, and ensure proper product storage and organization.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and warehouse personnel to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Assist management with scheduling, workflow planning, and resolving operational issues as they arise.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience operating forklifts, reach trucks, Hi-Lo forklifts, and other yard equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and direction from the Yard Supervisor while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in extreme weather conditions, including high heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions.
- Ability to identify piping materials by heat numbers, pipe size, wall thickness, and other product specifications.
- Experience handling and organizing pipe, steel, or industrial materials is preferred.
- Ability to lead and coordinate a small crew of up to two team members, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Prior experience in warehouse operations, shipping and receiving, inventory control, or order fulfillment.
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a warehouse, pipe yard, or distribution environment is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and yard/warehouse safety best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and climb throughout an entire shift.
- Comfortable working in varying warehouse temperatures and conditions.
- Ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment for extended periods.
