Duties
- Measure clients accurately using standard tailoring tools to determine precise sizing and fitting requirements
- Cut fabric according to pattern specifications, ensuring accuracy and minimal waste
- Sew and assemble garments with skillful stitching, paying close attention to detail for durability and aesthetic appeal
- Alter and adjust clothing items to achieve the desired fit, including taking in or letting out seams, shortening or lengthening hems, and resizing as needed
- Inspect finished products thoroughly for quality control, ensuring all details meet high standards before delivery
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including proper handling of fabrics, tools, and sewing machines
- Collaborate with clients to understand their preferences and provide expert advice on styles, fabrics, and alterations
Requirements
- Proven experience as a tailor or seamstress with a strong portfolio of completed projects
- Proficiency in using sewing machines, cutting tools, measuring tapes, pins, and other tailoring equipment
- Excellent eye for detail with a keen sense of craftsmanship and quality standards
- Ability to interpret patterns and technical drawings accurately
- Strong communication skills to understand customer needs and provide professional guidance
- Flexibility to work with various fabrics, styles, and garment types
- Ability to stand for extended periods while working on multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred qualifications include familiarity with modern tailoring techniques, experience working with diverse fabrics such as silk or leather, and relevant certifications in sewing or tailoring.
