Position Overview
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to implement occupational therapy services that support students' educational goals and functional performance in the school setting.
This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys working with children, collaborating with school teams, and helping students develop the skills needed for success in the classroom and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Provide direct therapy services to students in individual and group settings
- Support students in developing fine motor, sensory, self-help, visual-motor, and functional school skills
- Document student progress and maintain accurate service records
- Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, teachers, administrators, and other school staff
- Assist with collecting data and monitoring progress toward IEP goals
- Support the implementation of accommodations and strategies within the educational environment
- Participate in team meetings and maintain professional communication with school personnel and families
- Adhere to state regulations, district policies, and professional standards
Qualifications
- Associate Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Active Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license
- NBCOT certification preferred
- Previous pediatric or school-based experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Commitment to supporting student growth and educational success
