Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Machinist to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will operate and set up a variety of machining equipment, including CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines such as lathes and mills, to produce precision metal components. Your expertise in reading blueprints, interpreting mechanical drawings, and utilizing precision measurement tools will be essential to ensure the highest quality standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to complex manufacturing projects, utilizing advanced machining techniques and tools to bring designs to life with accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machines, including CNC lathes and milling machines, ensuring proper calibration and alignment for each job.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) programming software such as Fanuc or similar systems.
- Use precision measurement instruments like micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Perform manual machining operations using hand tools, grinders, lathes, mills, and other machining tools when necessary.
- Conduct machine setup procedures including tooling selection, fixture installation, and calibration for optimal performance.
- Inspect finished parts for accuracy using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles and measurement tools; perform quality control checks during production runs.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and proper handling of machinery and materials.
Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code; experience with CAM software like SolidWorks or similar is preferred.
- Skilled in operating CNC machinery including lathes, mills, grinders, and related equipment like CNC milling machines with Fanuc controls.
- Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of metal machining processes and tooling selection.
- Ability to perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments for quality assurance.
- Experience in manual machining techniques alongside CNC operations for versatile manufacturing tasks.
- Familiarity with GD&T standards for accurate interpretation of mechanical blueprints.
- Basic math skills necessary for calculating dimensions, tolerances, feed rates, speeds, M-code programming steps, and measurements.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow efficiency.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machine issues quickly.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with mechanical knowledge to produce high-quality components consistently.
