1. The CRNA is authorized to perform routine duties on a regular repetitive basis. These duties may be performed after specific discussion with the supervising physician.
2. Maintains current BLS certification
3. Maintains current ACLS certification
4. Respond to emergency situations when a physician is not immediately available by providing airway management, delivering emergency drugs and fluids and following cardiovascular life support guidelines. The CRNA initiates these activities and summons a physician as soon as possible.
5. Maintains thorough knowledge of pharmacological properties, indications and contraindications of anesthesia - their untoward effects and the management thereof.
6. Maintains thorough knowledge of sterile technique and infection control.
7. Maintains working knowledge of all equipment associated with delivery of anesthesia. Apply appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring devices for continuous evaluation of the patient.
8. Maintains and readily retrieves all necessary paperwork and patient records related to anesthesia.
9. Assist Direct of Nursing in maintenance of drug supply and inventory.
10. Provides in-service education to keep operating room staff abreast of anesthesia changes.
11. Participate with the staff in the initiation of the anesthetic.
12. Assists Physician in physical assessment of surgical patients.
13. Oversees delivery of preoperative, operative and postoperative anesthesia care. Manage patient's airway and ventilation during anesthesia care
14. Monitor regional and local anesthesia and provide adjunctive treatment as necessary.
15. Perform the pre-anesthesia evaluation.
16. Obtain and prepare all drugs necessary to initiate and maintain the anesthetic and to treat emergencies.
17. Develop and implement an anesthetic plan.
18. Order appropriate laboratory test, medical clearances necessary to aid in the evaluation of the patient preoperative, operatively or postoperative.
19. Administers IV sedation and peribulbar block and maintains under the direction of the Surgeon.
20. CRNAs should consult with surgeon concerning any abnormal conditions discovered during the pre-anesthetic evaluation, and any abnormal patient conditions arising during the anesthetic or during the recovery period.
21. Maintains surgical/anesthesia logbook, complete checklists of emergency equipment.
22. Maintains confidentiality of patient records
23. Is conservative in the use of supplies and equipment to assure cost containment
