About the Position
M&B Restaurants is looking for a motivated, hands-on General Manager to lead one of our Penn Station Sandwiches restaurants. We are looking for more than someone who can simply run a shift. Our General Managers are expected to take ownership of their restaurant, develop their team, grow sales, maintain a clean and well-run store, control costs, and create an environment where every guest feels welcome.
Our leadership philosophy is simple: we serve guests, not customers. When someone walks into our restaurant, we want them treated the same way you would treat a guest visiting your home.
The right candidate will be a leader who is comfortable working alongside the team, setting clear expectations, holding people accountable, and continuously looking for ways to improve the restaurant.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the restaurant Recruit, train, develop, schedule, and retain a strong team
- Provide hands-on leadership during busy periods
- Deliver outstanding guest service and quickly resolve guest concerns
- Maintain high standards for food quality, cleanliness, organization, and restaurant appearance
- Build sales through excellent operations, community involvement, and repeat guests
- Manage food cost, labor cost, inventory, waste, and other controllable expenses
- Ensure proper cash handling and financial controls
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels while controlling labor
- Follow and enforce all company policies, food safety requirements, and operational standards
- Develop Assistant Managers and team members for future leadership opportunities
- Review restaurant performance and take action when goals are not being achieved
- Create a positive workplace built around communication, accountability, teamwork, and respect
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous restaurant management experience; General Manager experience preferred
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- A hands-on management style
- The ability to coach employees while also holding the team accountable
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- An understanding of food cost, labor management, inventory, scheduling, and restaurant profitability
- A passion for cleanliness, food quality, and exceptional guest service
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lead by example
- Dependability and a strong work ethic
- Availability to work the schedule necessary to successfully operate the restaurant, including some nights and weekends
