Position Summary:
The Senior Estimator leads the estimating team and manages the preparation of bids for large, complex electrical projects. This role involves developing bid strategies, overseeing takeoffs, negotiating with vendors/subs, and ensuring the accuracy and profitability of proposals. The Senior Estimator also mentors junior staff and contributes to preconstruction planning and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Bid Leadership:
- Lead bid efforts on large or complex projects ($5M+).
- Develop overall bid strategy and ensure alignment with company goals.
- Review contract terms, insurance requirements, and bonding conditions for risk.
- Perform high-level takeoffs and review junior staff’s takeoff work.
- Approve bid clarifications, inclusions/exclusions, and final proposal documents.
Cost Estimating & Risk Management:
- Analyze historical cost data and market trends for competitive pricing.
- Conduct a detailed review of subcontractor/vendor scopes.
- Identify risks, scope gaps, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support contract negotiations with clients and GCs.
Leadership & Mentoring:
- Supervise and mentor Estimators and Junior Estimators.
- Conduct peer reviews of estimates for accuracy.
- Train team members on software, productivity factors, and industry practices.
Collaboration & Client Relations:
- Partner with Operations and PMs during preconstruction planning and project turnover.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, walkthroughs, and presentations with clients/GCs.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Process & Reporting:
- Maintain unit cost libraries, labor databases, and estimating standards.
- Provide bid-hit ratio reports and market intelligence to leadership.
- Support the executive team with budgetary estimates for business development.
Qualifications:
- 7–12 years of electrical estimating experience, with large/complex projects.
- Expertise in NEC, local codes, and industry construction practices.
- Advanced proficiency in estimating software and Excel-based models.
- Strong negotiation and leadership skills.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Success in this role will be measured by:
- Bid Accuracy: ≤ 3% variance between estimate and actual cost.
- Team Win Rate: ≥ 30–35% of bids awarded.
- Mentorship Impact: At least 1–2 Estimators trained/promoted annually.
- Proposal Timeliness: 100% of bids submitted on time.
- Profitability: ≥ 95% of awarded projects maintain estimated margins through execution.
PAY IS DEPENDENT UPON EXPERIENCE.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
