Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples via venipuncture and capillary puncture using aseptic technique, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Prepare and process specimens accurately for laboratory testing, adhering to proper handling protocols.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration to assist in patient assessment.
- Assist healthcare providers with patient care activities including taking medical histories and updating electronic health records (EHR/EMR).
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment following infection control standards; perform heavy lifting when necessary for specimen transport.
- Document all procedures meticulously, including data entry into laboratory information systems and patient records.
- Provide excellent patient service by explaining procedures clearly, addressing concerns, and demonstrating empathy across diverse populations including geriatrics and pediatrics.
Requirements
- Proven experience in laboratory procedures, techniques, or clinical laboratory work with a focus on specimen collection and processing.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and laboratory techniques such as venipuncture and blood sampling.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required; additional certifications in phlebotomy or related fields are a plus.
- Prior hospital or healthcare facility experience preferred; familiarity with EMR/EHR systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for extended periods, heavy lifting, and maintaining aseptic technique during specimen handling.
- Strong customer service skills with a professional attitude; capable of working efficiently in fast-paced environments serving diverse patient populations.
