Meat Cutters play an important role in the success of our business, influencing customer experiences in the Meat department in many ways – cutting and preparing quality eye-appealing products, ensuring item availability on the sales floor, monitoring product freshness, maintaining department cleanliness and sanitation, and delivering remarkable service using product knowledge, suggestive selling and cooking suggestions. The position reports to the Meat Market Manager.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Greeting each customer with, “Good (morning, afternoon, evening)! Welcome to Rouses!”
- Engaging in appropriate conversations with customers and thanking them for choosing to shop with us
- Cutting/grinding meat according to Rouse's specifications and to accommodate customer special requests using a meat saw and/or knife and the grinder
- Managing the meat production line in partnership with department leaders and meat clerks
- Wrapping meat according to Rouse's specifications using automatic and manual machines
- Setting meat cases according to planograms, using signage and pricing labels as directed
- Stocking cases and displays to maintain a fresh and full appearance
- Rotating and culling items on the sales floor and in the cooler and freezer by date and taking appropriate action
- Cooking seafood items for customers, if applicable
- Completing price changes, including re-wrapping, relabeling and sign changes
- Understanding the store layout to easily locate products for customers
- Completing daily cleaning and sanitation procedures
- Assisting with product ordering and receiving for the department
- Maintaining a professional personal brand representation in the proper Rouse's uniform
- Reporting to work on time and as scheduled
- Other duties, as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED
Ability to acquire a Food Handler Card (Alabama stores) within 90 days of hire
6 months to 1 year of journeyman meat cutting experience
Able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
Physical Requirements:
Able to stand for extended periods of time
Able to distinguish product quality and freshness standards
Able to stoop, squat, reach and maneuver to move product, boxes, bags, shelving, carts and equipment
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
