Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate mechanical construction cost estimates by evaluating labor, material, equipment, subcontract, and project risks; reviewing blueprints and specifications; developing competitive bids and execution plans; supporting procurement, contract buyouts, and change management; collaborating with project teams, clients, engineers, and leadership; and utilizing advanced estimating software and financial analysis to ensure project profitability, cost control, and successful project execution while leading and mentoring estimating team members.
Responsibilities

Review estimated labor, material, and subcontract pricing

Compile indirect staffing plans, professional staff plans, organizational charts, construction equipment needs, temporary facilities, and construction service requirements for pricing

Compile complete project estimates

Evaluate project risks and determine contingency requirements

Present estimates for review and feedback from Safety, Field, Quality, and Project Management teams; Participate in final estimate and proposal reviews and provide approval

Support material procurement and contract buyout activities

Collaborate with the project team to complete execution plans and review with senior leadership

Support change management processes by estimating project changes and revisions

Attend post-project meetings to identify lessons learned and improve internal processes

Lead and motivate team members while encouraging collaboration and teamwork

Provide coaching, training, and guidance to support team performance and development

Apply expertise in financial analysis, construction methods, and market trends to deliver accurate mechanical construction cost estimates

Gather project details and compile data to estimate labor, material, equipment, and time requirements

Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents

Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to define project scope and material requirements; Consult with industry experts to evaluate labor and material costs

Identify and quantify cost drivers including production time, materials, and labor expenses

Prepare and submit detailed financial estimates and competitive bids for construction projects

Maintain records of estimated versus actual project costs; Adjust estimates based on design modifications or scope changes

Evaluate project profitability and overall viability; Conduct risk analysis to minimize potential cost overruns

Utilize advanced estimating and construction software to prepare accurate cost calculations
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field

Minimum of 10 years' experience estimating mechanical indistrial construction projects

Proven work experience as a construction cost estimator or similar role

Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials

Experience with cost estimation software

Excellent analytical and numerical skills

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
