The Senior Accountant is an important member of the Accounting Department with responsibilities related to providing timely and accurate transaction processing and analyses for AHRC Nassau, Nassau County AHRC Foundation, Inc. (“Foundation” or “the Foundation”) and its Affiliates, agencies serving and supporting persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In addition, you will:
- Prepare monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements for multiple entities, ensuring timely reporting to management and governing boards.
- Maintain audit-ready financial records, including work papers, trial balances, general ledgers, PBC documentation, lease accounting schedules, and support for annual audits and regulatory filings (Form 990, CHAR500).
- Manage HUD compliance for affordable housing, including annual tenant recertifications, Budget-Based Rent Adjustments (BBRAs), REAC reporting, and related regulatory submissions.
- Record and reconcile investment portfolio activity, including income, gains/losses, purchases, sales, and prepare financial analyses and reports for executive leadership and boards.
- Assist with agency budgeting, retirement plan audits, debt financing activities, and cross-functional coordination with Finance, HR, Payroll, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Provide backup accounting support, contribute to process improvements and system implementations, and perform special projects as assigned.

We require:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- Three (3) years of relevant work experience, preferably with a not-for-profit agency
AND
- One (1) year of experience in financial and investment reporting
- Familiarity or direct experience with real estate-related accounting and/or financial record-keeping for a not-for-profit fundraising foundation considered a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Good communication with staff, management, outside regulatory agencies, and other departments in a professional manner
- Keen attention to detail, analysis, developing and recommending solutions, and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks on a timely basis with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
