Job Overview
You will support individuals with developmental disabilities in daily life and personal care. You will help clients build independence, stay safe, and feel valued every day. You will work in group homes, community settings, or client homes across Maryland. Your patience and energy will create a positive space where clients thrive. This role gives you hands-on experience in a growing field with real impact.
Duties
- Help clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene
- Check vital signs and watch for changes in health or behavior
- Support medication reminders and administration per care plans
- Prepare meals and help with dietary needs
- Use safe transfer techniques, including Hoyer lifts, to assist with mobility
- Document daily notes, progress, and observations accurately
- Drive clients to appointments, outings, and community activities
- Lead activities that build skills and support emotional well-being
- Follow safety steps, including CPR, first aid, and infection control
- Work with the care team to follow each client's support plan
- Clock in/out using EVV (Electronic Visit Verification)
Requirements
- Passed background checks
- Possess DDA trainings, CPR, first aid and CMT
- Must have a valid driver's license and can drive
- Must have a valid Mdot
- Experience with developmental disabilities or aging populations is a plus
- Strong ability to notice changes and respond fast
- Understanding of HIPAA rules to protect client privacy
- Comfort assisting with ADLs and personal care
- Background in group homes, assisted living, or home care settings preferred
- Ability to use equipment like Hoyer lifts and blood pressure monitors
- Clear communication skills with clients and coworkers
- Physical readiness for lifting, standing, and active shifts
