Member Duties : This position involves working in a team to build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff. Duties are set with administrators based on site needs and follow AmeriCorps rules on non-duplication, non-displacement, and non-supplantation. Members do not replace licensed staff. Members provide academic coaching (tutoring, study skills, organization, time management, and credit recovery support) and student mentorship (building supportive relationships, modeling social-emotional skills, serving as a consistent adult presence—not disciplinary or case managers). They support REACH homeschool students through check-ins, accountability, and help accessing curriculum without designing lessons or assigning grades. At Sitka High School, members assist in classrooms and learning spaces under supervision, maintaining safe, structured environments. Facilitate optional, non-credit afterschool enrichment and tutoring that supplements—not duplicates—existing services.
