The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment. The Accounting Services Bureau is responsible for collecting all departmental revenues, ensuring all financial transactions are correct, accounting for all of the agency¿s assets and completion of the annual financial statements and financial audit in compliance with all oversight authorities.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to received three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
Why does the job exist?
This position functions as a part of the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Project Billing and Accounts Receivable Unit. Position is directed by management to perform General Accounts Receivable routine functions including collection of NMDOT aged accounts, filing, coding daily deposits to the correct account codes, will serve as backup for daily deposits and invoicing through the statewide financial system (SHARE) AR module and perform periodic analysis of accounts. Analyze and determine compliance with established accounting laws, state requirements including NM Department of Finance Administration (NM DFA) Models of Accounting Practices (MAPS) and NMDOT policies and procedures to ensure completeness and correctness and make recommendations to management.
How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly tasks in the Statewide Human Resources Accounting Reporting (SHARE).
- Utilize Microsoft Excel to enter and verify Accounts Receivable transactions.
- Maintaining customer files.
- Contacting customers about outstanding balances on their accounts.
- Performing monthly reconciliation and analysis of accounts.
- Assist with NMDOT¿s annual financial audit needs.
- Update and maintain agency accounting procedures.

Minimum Qualification
High School or Equivalency and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
