Duties
- Perform thorough patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and injections with precision, including IV infusions, catheterizations, and medication management in compliance with HIPAA and medical documentation standards.
- Utilize advanced EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth to accurately document patient information, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Conduct specialized procedures such as suturing, tube feedings, ostomy care, and sterile processing while maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Manage acute pain and critical conditions by implementing emergency response procedures aligned with Level I/II trauma center standards and ICU protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), ophthalmology (including botulinum toxin treatments), and other specialties to optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide education on health coaching, discharge planning, and chronic disease management for patients with complex needs such as dementia or developmental disabilities.
- Support infection control initiatives through specimen collection/processing and adherence to CDC guidelines for infectious disease care.
- Assist in triage assessments for urgent care or outpatient settings to prioritize patient needs effectively.
- Participate in case management activities including long-term care planning, hospice & palliative medicine support, and Workers' compensation law compliance.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Registered Nurse in diverse environments such as hospital intensive care units (ICU), neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP), pediatric units, or emergency rooms.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth; familiarity with ICD-9/10 coding is highly desirable.
- Critical care experience including ventilator management, trauma medicine (Level I/II trauma centers), or ICU experience is preferred.
- Background in medical-surgical nursing with exposure to laboratory experience, phlebotomy, CPT coding for procedures, and diagnostic evaluation skills.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special populations such as geriatrics (memory care), behavioral health patients, or those requiring home & community care services.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining safe clinical environments.
- Prior roles involving acute pain management, dialysis procedures, occupational health initiatives or assisted living environments are advantageous.
