A Day in the Life
As the Assistant General Manager, you will partner with the General Manager to oversee the daily operations of the hotel while ensuring exceptional guest service, operational excellence, and compliance with company and brand standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the General Manager with the day-to-day operation of the hotel.
- Provide leadership and direction to department managers and team members by assigning responsibilities, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with company policies, brand standards, and operating procedures.
- Train, coach, and develop managers and associates to support a high-performing team.
- Promote a positive image of the hotel within the local community, hospitality industry, and business organizations.
- Monitor guest feedback through brand surveys, online review platforms, and other guest satisfaction channels, taking appropriate action to improve the guest experience.
- Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally, utilizing effective service recovery techniques and assisting the General Manager with escalated issues.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orientation of new team members.
- Assist with performance management, including coaching, employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations in accordance with company policies.
- Maintain accurate operational and financial records, including cash flow reports, direct billing, accounts receivable aging, and other required documentation.
- Lead or assist with daily stand-up meetings and assume responsibility for hotel operations in the absence of the General Manager.
- Ensure compliance with all Magnus Hotel Management policies, franchise requirements, and standard operating procedures.
- Support the General Manager in managing key property initiatives, including capital improvements, renovations, preventive maintenance, and guest service enhancements.
- Assist with wage and salary reviews to ensure compensation practices remain competitive and compliant with company guidelines.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly property inspections to ensure the hotel, grounds, and facilities are clean, safe, and well maintained.
- Foster strong working relationships across all departments to promote teamwork, communication, and operational efficiency.
- Provide operational support by working shifts in various departments as business needs require.
- Monitor maintenance projects and the condition of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), providing updates and recommendations to the General Manager.
- Conduct inventory audits and ensure operational supplies are maintained at appropriate par levels.
- Perform unannounced inspections of guest rooms and operational areas to verify quality and brand compliance.
- Lead by example while providing effective leadership, coaching, and support to all team members.
- Ensure team members receive required uniforms and name tags and consistently adhere to company grooming and appearance standards.
- Maintain clear, timely, and accurate communication regarding company policies, operational updates, and hotel initiatives.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, business planning, and achieving hotel financial goals.
- Participate in corporate client relations and support sales initiatives as needed to grow business opportunities.
- Respond to internal, franchise, and third-party audits and implement corrective actions to support continuous improvement.
- Be available to respond to guest or employee emergencies and operational issues outside of normal business hours as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the General Manager or Magnus Hotel Management.
Skills you’ll need:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management, Hospitality, or related field preferred.
- Prior Assistant General Manager experience in the hospitality industry preferred.
- Ability to stand/walk for entire shift.
- Lift up to 25lbs occasionally, lift up to 40lbs rarely.
- Ability to use a computer, familiar with MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to read, write and understand English. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful.
- Previous Hotel experience required.
- FOSSEE, Single Plane of Glass, Stay PMS, or Power of M experience required.
- Strong leadership and a professional image.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
