Travelling Project Manager – Data Center Projects:
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Travelling Project Manager to lead the successful execution of mission-critical data center construction projects for our client across the United States. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of assigned projects from preconstruction through final turnover, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor management, client relations, risk management, and overall project performance.
The Traveling Project Manager works closely with Project Executives, Superintendents, MEP Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, trade partners, and commissioning teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This position requires extensive travel and temporary relocation based on project assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership:
- Lead all phases of project execution from preconstruction through closeout.
- Develop and implement project execution plans aligned with contract requirements and client expectations.
- Establish project goals, milestones, and performance metrics.
- Provide leadership and direction to project engineers, assistant project managers, superintendents, and project support staff.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused project culture.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls.
- Monitor labor productivity, equipment costs, subcontractor performance, and material expenditures.
- Review and approve purchase orders, subcontract agreements, invoices, and pay applications.
- Manage project cash flow, billing, and financial reporting.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks while maximizing project profitability.
Contract Administration:
- Administer owner and subcontract agreements in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, and contract modifications.
- Coordinate with legal, procurement, and executive leadership on contractual issues.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with project requirements.
Schedule Management:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules in collaboration with field leadership and trade partners.
- Monitor critical path activities and identify schedule risks.
- Coordinate procurement of long-lead materials and equipment.
- Implement recovery plans when schedule impacts occur.
- Ensure milestone completion supports commissioning and owner occupancy requirements.
Team & Field Coordination:
- Work closely with Superintendents and MEP leadership to support field operations.
- Conduct regular project site visits to monitor progress, safety, quality, and productivity.
- Coordinate efforts among civil, structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines.
- Resolve project challenges through proactive communication and decision-making.
- Mentor and develop project team members to support career growth and operational excellence.
Client Relations:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, consultants, architects, and project stakeholders.
- Lead owner meetings, progress reviews, and executive-level project updates.
- Build strong client relationships through responsiveness, transparency, and consistent project performance.
- Address client concerns promptly while maintaining alignment with project objectives.
Risk Management:
- Identify and evaluate project risks related to safety, schedule, budget, procurement, labor, and quality.
- Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Monitor project compliance with contract requirements, permitting, and regulatory obligations.
- Support dispute resolution and claims management when necessary.
Safety & Quality:
- Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project-specific requirements.
- Support project teams in maintaining exceptional quality standards throughout construction.
- Participate in safety audits, quality inspections, and executive project reviews.
- Ensure all work complies with contract documents, applicable building codes, and owner standards.
Commissioning & Project Closeout:
- Coordinate project turnover with owners, commissioning agents, and facility operations teams.
- Ensure timely completion of punch lists, testing, startup activities, and owner training.
- Oversee delivery of warranties, as-built documentation, operation and maintenance manuals, and closeout documentation.
- Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and continuous improvement opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; equivalent construction management experience will also be considered.
- Minimum 8–10 years of commercial construction experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Experience managing projects valued at $50 million or greater; mission-critical or data center experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project controls, scheduling, procurement, contract administration, budgeting, and cost management.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing across civil, structural, architectural, and MEP scopes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively and relocate temporarily based on project assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience delivering hyperscale or enterprise data center projects.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) credential.
- Experience with Lean Construction principles and Last Planner System.
- Experience supporting mission-critical commissioning and integrated systems testing.

- Ability to travel extensively and work on temporary assignments throughout the United States.

- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in office and construction site environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
