As an NPI Engineer - Mechanical, you will:
Key Results Area 1 - New Product Introduction

Manages the introduction of new products from design to production, including the creation of production processes and documentation, as well as the completion of pilot builds and one-off complex system-level product builds not suited for a full-scale production environment.

Follows the Design Engineering Stage Gate Process and utilizes outputs from design phases (Design Verification Testing (DVT) reports, product datasheets, and Engineering handoff forms), developing manufacturing requirements to design, document, and deliver assembly and test setups that seamlessly integrate with the production floor, specifically supporting the entire production process while focusing on pre-test, calibration, and final testing production processes.

Attends technical design discussions before NPI projects begin and assists in developing realistic project requirements, including project timelines, budgets, and resource plans, conducting risk assessments, and proactively implementing mitigation strategies.

Defines detailed opto-electrical test design to meet requirements provided by DVT documentation and datasheet specifications.

Performs front-end physical assembly and testing, or Pilot Runs, of new product designs, including qualification and validation of new manufacturing processes and equipment necessary to produce the latest products.
- Collaborates with Design Engineering and Manufacturing Process Engineering on integrating new products into full production release and analyzing production data post-release to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Produces and supports documentation that meets AS9100 and customer-specific design processes and standards (e.g., AS9145, PPAP DFMEA, and DFM).
Key Results Area 2 - Product Sustainability

Investigates research and front-end feasibility studies (i.e., investigating applicable new technologies, sourcing new components, and identifying new suppliers) to source and qualify new test equipment for the Company’s products.

Supports and utilizes the Company’s Item Master Database to track upcoming and ongoing project releases from Engineering.

Troubleshoots and optimizes test stand circuits, including soldering small components, wires, and test points for temporary resolution and test board redesigns for permanent solutions.

Defines production test software needs and collaborates with the software engineering team to validate and implement new software releases, patches, and upgrades with minimal disruption and downtime on production flow.

Performs low-volume, complex product builds that are not manufacturable within the existing production floor structure, including, but not limited to, CCT boxes, lightning sticks, and Optofy boxes.
- Provides ongoing training to new and existing Manufacturing Process Engineers and production technicians on products and production processes.

Provides support to production supervisors and team leaders, as needed, to keep the manufacturing line running optimally.

Provides support to quality engineers, as needed, to document production processes and NPI project work as required by company and industry standards.
- Provides feedback to the Operations Management team on product and process improvements and modifications.
To be considered for the NPI Engineer - Mechanical role, here’s what you’ll typically need to bring with you:

A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent technical degree is required.

3+ years of relevant manufacturing experience is required.
-
2 years of experience reading and understanding drawings, technical documents, and user manuals are required.
-
2 years of experience developing and executing detailed test plans is required.
-
This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.

2 years of experience with circuit design and electrical and optical test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, BERTs, power supplies, etc.)

Proficient with standard office productivity tools and equipment (i.e., Microsoft Suite).
-
Proficient in leading small teams in the completion of technical projects.
-
Ability to train base-level engineers and technicians.
-
Ability to present technical material to management and non-technical personnel.
-
Working knowledge and experience with system-level optical technologies.
It’d be great if you also had:

An advanced degree is a plus.

2 years of experience with electrical/electronic systems and troubleshooting circuits is a plus.

2 years of experience in electro-optical systems and troubleshooting is a plus.

2 years of experience working with high-speed communication systems and protocols (e.g., IEEE 802.xx, High-Speed Ethernet, etc.) is a plus.

Basic knowledge of programming languages and embedded code is a plus.

Working knowledge of microprocessors and controlled equipment (e.g., electromechanical systems, embedded controllers, and thermal control) is a plus.

Salary Range Transparency:
Cleveland, OH $81,800.00–$108,000.00 Annually
