Position Overview:
J&W Services & Equipment Company is seeking a skilled, industry-certified Welder to join the J&W manufacturing team at our API Spec 6A licensed facility in Midland, Texas. In this role you will perform precision welding on pressure-containing wellhead components and structural equipment, working to qualified Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) under a controlled quality system.
Because this is an API 6A environment, the position blends hands-on welding with disciplined quality control based on J&W internal QMS procedures. The right candidate is equally comfortable striking an arc and reading a machine print and takes ownership of in-process and final inspection to ensure every part meets dimensional and procedural requirements before product release.
API-6A Facility Welder:
· Perform GMAW and SMAW welding processes for butt and fillet welds to pressure equipment at the wellhead and structural equipment
· At a minimum, welder will qualify to four Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
· Most welding processes will be for carbon steel components (example: wellhead)
· Industry certified welder in GMAW and SMAW welding processes
· Understand how to follow WPS when welding
· Know how to use calibrated measuring devices
· Be familiar how to read blueprints
· Understand how to maintain and perform general preventive maintenance to welding power source and positioner
· Use of job traveler/workorder, inspection sheet, material test report (MTR), machine print
· As necessary and required, understand how to assist and observe personnel performing nondestructive examination (NDE)
Quality Control and Inspection for an API certified facility:
· Perform in-process inspection and final inspection of critical dimensions and measurements for machined parts with use of machine prints
· Maintain calibration records and perform calibration for multiple measuring devices used in manufacturing and inspection
Core Competences
· Understand use of calibrated measuring devices including but not limited to various thread gauges, height gauges, depth gauges, ball micrometers, groove micrometers and calipers
· Be very familiar with standard and metric units of measure
· Know how to read and understand machine prints
· Use of traveler/workorder, inspection sheet, material test report (MTR), machine print
· Understand and usage of general design programs (example: AutoCad, Inventor)
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Strong leadership abilities to effectively supervise a team
- Work is performed in a manufacturing / machine shop environment with exposure to noise, welding fumes, heat, and moving equipment.
- Consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with shop and OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and maneuver components, and perform repetitive and detailed manual tasks
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, safety, and procedural discipline.
