The Role
We are seeking a Veterinary Assistant for our growing, dynamic practice. This is a dual-function role that spans both client service and veterinary support. We are currently prioritizing Client Service Representative experience with the opportunity to grow into the Veterinary Support skillsets. The right candidate will embrace client service, enjoy client education, and be a proactive team player in a fast-paced environment that sees equal parts preventative care and urgent care.
Role: Client Service Responsibilities
- Serve as a first point of contact for clients in person and by phone
- Schedule and confirm appointments
- Process payments and handle client checkout
- Conduct client outreach, including appointment reminders and follow-ups
- Provide clear, compassionate client communication and education
- Maintain accurate client and patient records
Role: Veterinary Support Responsibilities
- Obtain and record patient medical histories and vital signs
- Follow through with diagnostic and treatment plans as directed by the veterinarian
- Perform fear-free restraint techniques
- Assist with medical procedures and examinations
- Collect laboratory specimens (blood draws, urinalysis, fecal samples) and run in-house diagnostics
- Assist with radiographs and diagnostic imaging
- Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian
- Prepare patients for procedures, including dental cleanings
- Monitor patients during and after procedures
- Provide comfort and support during difficult visits, including end-of-life care
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment and exam areas
- Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment

Qualifications:
Required
- Bilingual: English and Spanish fluency
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to reliably commute to Chicago, IL 60608
- Weekend availability
- Comfort with the emotional aspects of veterinary care, including supporting clients through end-of-life decisions
Preferred
- Veterinary experience: 1+ year
- Client service experience (non-Veterinary experience welcome i.e. Starbucks, banking, etc..)
- Familiarity with veterinary technical skills such as venipuncture, radiography, or lab work
- Fear Free certification (or willingness to obtain—we support this)
- Interest in social media and community engagement is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods throughout the day
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (e.g., patients, supplies, equipment)
- Ability to restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments
- Exposure to animal dander, cleaning chemicals, and bodily fluids
- Manual dexterity for handling instruments and performing clinical tasks
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.50 - $22.00 per hour
