Position Title: Montessori Preschool Teaching Assistant
Reports to: Principal of P-8
FLSA Classification: Non- Exempt
FTE ( Full Time Equivalent): 100%
Schedule of Duties: 10-Month
Salary: $20.00- $27.00/Hourly
Position Purpose: The Montessori Teaching Assistant is responsible for assisting our Lead Montessori Teachers in creating a dynamic Montessori learning environment for students in a preschool classroom.
Assist in preparing materials needed for classroom activities and replenish as needed
Assist in changing over materials in the classroom to maintain a prepared Montessori environment
Keeping the classroom and communal spaces tidy and organized
Maintain overview of the class during work times and recess duty
Help manage and guide children through conflict
Maintain ratio coverage at all times in accordance with California State Licensing rules and regulations
Under the direction of a lead teacher maintain lesson plans and assist in executing planned curriculum
Assist in differentiated lesson planning for students in your class and provide lessons (1:1, small group, large group) when needed
Participate in daily lessons during whole group instruction (Morning meeting, prayer/meditation, music)
Track daily attendance through schools reporting tools
Oversees and is involved in all documentation and reporting (emailing parents, SeeSaw posts, learning services, outside supports, incident reports)
Assist in using our parent communication tool (See-Saw); taking photos, uploading, posting, etc.
Maintain student records, work samples throughout the year documenting student progress
Prepare (Assess & write) some student conferences as well as participate in all parent meetings to discuss the students in your care with your lead teacher (Fall, Feb, Spring)
Is available for as needed touch points with parents concerning behavior or academic needs
Attend monthly divisional meetings and participate as an active member of the preschool team; attend required P-8 and All School gatherings
Contribute to a positive workplace environment by being kind, warm and respectful to all you interact with as an enthusiastic member of the SHS community
A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based in it
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Primary (Ages 3-6years) Montessori certification required (AMS/AMI or equivalent certification) from a MACTE accredited program
Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English
Works in a stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Be able to regularly and safely lift up to 30 lbs.
Be able to crawl, bend, stoop, reach and sit on the floor
Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and work regularly in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Peninsula of the Bay Area.
Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a 64 acre campus
