Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Body Shop Prepper to join our dynamic automotive repair team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing vehicles for repair and refinishing by performing surface preparation, masking, sanding, and other essential tasks. Your expertise will ensure that each vehicle is ready for the next steps in auto body repair, painting, and finishing processes. Duties
- Perform surface preparation including sanding, grinding, and cleaning to ensure optimal paint adhesion and finish quality
- Mask off areas using surface preparation masking techniques to protect non-painted surfaces during spraying and coating processes
- Use hand tools, power tools, grinders, and spray guns to perform auto body refinishing tasks with precision
- Assist with auto painting by applying primers, base coats, clear coats using conventional spraying or airless paint spraying equipment
- Conduct automotive buffing and polishing to achieve smooth, high-gloss finishes on vehicle surfaces
- Support auto restoration projects by preparing surfaces for painting or refinishing, including auto glass removal and reinstallation when necessary
- Follow safety protocols including proper use of respiratory protection and handling of paints and chemicals to maintain a safe work environment
Experience
- Prior dealership or automotive body shop experience is highly preferred
- Hands-on experience with welding, sanding, buffing, and painting techniques in an automotive setting
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle maintenance and auto body repair processes
- Familiarity with surface preparation methods such as masking, sanding, grinding, and spray application techniques
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, grinders, spray guns (including airless paint spraying), and buffing equipment
- Knowledge of automotive surface preparation standards and auto glass replacement procedures
- Experience with auto estimating or customer service in an automotive context is a plus
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
