Overview
Barium has been a trusted leader in specialty chemical manufacturing for over 85 years, supporting industries on the cutting edge of national defense, medicine, aerospace, agriculture and more. Demand in these industries is growing and we are seeking a motivated entry-level technician to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone within the first few years of their career and is eager to build hands-on expertise in trace metal analysis, EPA method compliance, and real world wet chemistry techniques. We will provide the training and mentorship needed to grow your skills toward greater independence and more advanced instrumentation work overtime.
Duties
- Learn to perform, and progressively take ownership of, wet chemistry techniques and standard laboratory procedures under the guidance of experienced analysts.
- Assist with the operation and routine maintenance of ICP-OES instrumentation, with the opportunity to grow into method development and validation as your skills advance.
- Support trace metal analysis in complex matrices, building accuracy and precision through structured, hands-on training.
- Help execute and document results in alignment with relevant EPA methods (e.g., 200 series methods for metals).
- Prepare calibration standards and QC samples, and maintain clear, detailed laboratory records.
- Participate in troubleshooting instrumentation issues and routine maintenance alongside senior team members.
- Communicate analytical data clearly to technical staff and management, developing your reporting and data interpretation skills over time.
- Support regulatory and customer audits by learning and following standard operating procedures and quality systems.
- Collaborate with colleagues, ask questions, and actively seek feedback to continually improve laboratory practices and workflows.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field, completed within the last five years (or equivalent hands-on lab experience).
- Coursework or lab experience involving fundamental wet chemistry techniques (e.g., titrations, sample preparation, gravimetric or volumetric analysis).
- Exposure to laboratory instrumentation through coursework, internships, or research is a plus, but not required — we will train on ICP-OES operation and EPA methods.
- A strong foundation in the scientific method, with an eagerness to learn laboratory QA/QC requirements and regulatory compliance on the job.
- Solid fundamentals in data analysis, interpretation, and written communication, with room to grow into more advanced reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, safety-conscious approach to laboratory work.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, and a genuine willingness to take direction and feedback.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, with a growth mindset and drive to develop advanced skills over time
This role is ideal for someone looking to have a stable, long term opportunity to grow a career in chemistry and/or scientific laboratory professions.
