About the Role
Premier Mechanical is seeking a Construction Estimator to join our Construction Department. In this role, you will own the estimating process for commercial HVAC and mechanical projects — from initial plan review through bid submission and post-award handoff to the project management team. You will work directly with the owner and senior leadership on plan and spec bids across the greater Boston market.

What You’ll Do
Estimating and Takeoffs
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from mechanical drawings and specifications for commercial HVAC plan and spec bids.
- Develop labor, material, and equipment estimates with accurate productivity rates and current pricing.
- Identify scope gaps, drawing conflicts, and specification issues early in the bid process.
- Track historical cost data and unit pricing to refine estimating accuracy over time.
Subcontractor and Vendor Pricing
- Solicit, review, and qualify pricing from subcontractors and material vendors.
- Build and maintain relationships with key vendors and subs to ensure competitive pricing and reliable bid coverage.
- Evaluate vendor and sub proposals for completeness, scope alignment, and risk.
Bid Assembly and Submission
- Assemble complete bid packages including pricing, scope letters, clarifications, and exclusions.
- Coordinate with leadership on bid strategy, markup, and final pricing decisions.
- Submit bids on time and in the required format, working with general contractors and bid platforms.
Post-Bid Handoff
- On awarded projects, walk the project management team through the estimate, scope assumptions, and key risks.
- Conduct occasional pre-bid site visits and walkthroughs to confirm conditions and refine scope.
- Support project teams during buyout with vendor and subcontractor introductions and pricing context.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of estimating experience on commercial HVAC or mechanical construction projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems — rooftop units, splits, boilers, chillers, ductwork, piping, controls, and related equipment.
- Experience with plan and spec / hard bid estimating.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and addenda accurately.
- Familiarity with industry estimating and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam, Trimble, or comparable platforms.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines at once.
- Clear written and verbal communication — you can ask sharp questions of engineers, vendors, and subs, and document scope clearly.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license for site visits and pre-bid walks.
Nice to Have
- Background as a mechanical engineer, project engineer, or HVAC field experience.
- Familiarity with the greater Boston commercial construction market and local general contractors.
- Experience estimating both equipment and sheet metal scopes.
- Prior involvement in design-build or negotiated work in addition to plan and spec.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM start. Office-based at our Somerville location with occasional site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs throughout the greater Boston area.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
