We are seeking an experienced CDL Tack Truck Operator to join our Asphalt Division. This role is responsible for safely operating a tack/distributor truck to apply tack coat and prime coat materials ahead of asphalt paving operations, ensuring proper bonding between pavement layers and supporting project schedules across active roadway and site construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a CDL-classified tack/distributor truck to apply tack coat, prime coat, and other bituminous materials per project specifications
- Calibrate and adjust spray bar equipment to achieve correct application rates and coverage
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations
- Coordinate with paving crew and foreman to ensure tack application supports paving production schedule
- Transport asphalt materials between plant, yard, and job sites as needed
- Maintain accurate daily logs of hours, mileage, and material usage
- Follow all MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) protocols and site safety requirements
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and report mechanical issues promptly
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Requirements:
- Valid Class A or B CDL (Class A preferred) with clean driving record
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating tack/distributor trucks or similar tanker/spray equipment in road construction
- Experience in asphalt paving operations strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations and hours-of-service rules
- Ability to read basic project plans and understand application rate specifications
- Strong understanding of job site safety practices, including MOT and traffic control
