The Communications and Production Manager at the Portland Museum of Art (PMA) oversees the content and production processes for the PMA’s communications, design, and audience engagement initiatives. This role is central to keeping the PMA’s high-quality design and communication standards, ensuring effective execution of promotional campaigns, brand alignment, and resource optimization. The Communications and Production Manager acts as a liaison between departments, overseeing schedules, resource allocation, and content alignment.
Campaign Coordination and Production Management

Collaborates with the Head of Communications and Audience Engagement to strategize, coordinate, and manage integrated communications and marketing campaigns aligned with institutional priorities.

Manages integrated end-to-end design production workflows, including written content, schedules, and deliverables for museum-wide initiatives.

Manages vendor communications including outreach, design discussions, project expectations, estimates, and quotes with print, publication, advertising, and digital production partners.

Manages relationships with contracted copy editors as assigned.

Coordinates file exchanges, timeline updates, and maintains ongoing communications to ensure accurate production, delivery, installation, and billing.

Assesses and develops systems to ensure brand quality and cohesive messaging across all projects and platforms, reviews and approves content.

Actively takes part in cross-departmental working groups and committees to boost organizational effectiveness and collaboration.
Digital Production and Channel Management

Establishes priorities, schedules, and production timelines for the Digital Content and Marketing Specialist.

Reviews and approves digital content before publication, ensuring consistency with campaign objectives and brand standards.

Oversees execution of website updates, email production, digital signage, multimedia content, and social media deliverables.

Coordinates digital asset creation across campaigns, ensuring materials are produced efficiently and distributed across appropriate channels.

Works with the Digital Content and Marketing Specialist to maintain the PMA’s digital asset library and production workflows.

Evaluates digital campaign performance and recommends adjustments based on analytics.
Operational Excellence and Data Utilization

Supports strategic financial planning by assisting in departmental budget management.

Collects, analyzes, and reports key performance metrics to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

Leverages data systems to optimize workflows, resource allocation, and overall departmental efficiency.

Ensures data accuracy, security, and compliance with the PMA’s policies and regulatory standards.
Team Leadership

Directs daily team operations, ensuring staff are trained, museum standards are met, and organizational objectives and goals are achieved.
Interdepartmental Collaboration

Collaborates on special projects, as needed.
Participates in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring staff. Manages onboarding and offboarding, scheduling, coaching, counseling, training and development, performance evaluations, discipline, documentation, and terminations, with support of Human Resources.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field.

5-7 years of experience in brand management and production coordination.

At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
