American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position on a 4th floor unit, requiring at least 2 years of experience, night shift availability, and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Acute care hospital setting on a combined Med/Surg Telemetry unit (4A and 4B) with 48 total beds
-
Common patient diagnoses include COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, TIA, CVA, and general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with CNAs on the unit at a 1:10–15 ratio
-
Telemetry is monitored remotely by tele techs on another floor; RNs are required to interpret and sign strips at least once per shift
-
Diltiazem administered at a set rate; drip titration is not required
-
Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and breathing treatments

Charting is done in Cerner; prior Cerner experience is strongly recommended due to limited orientation time

12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break

Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)

First to float; floating may include the East Campus and PCU (if qualified)

No on-call or standby requirements

Active AZ or compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Experience reading basic telemetry strips required

Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, as well as CVA and TIA patients required
-
A driver's license must be provided for consideration
-
Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)

Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift on the unit; Cerner experience is strongly recommended given the limited orientation time
-
Self-scheduling is used; schedules are made 4 weeks in advance and are finalized by the unit manager
-
Holiday coverage is expected for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day, with a requirement to work a combination of 2 days and 1 evening or 2 evenings and 1 day across those holidays

Navy blue scrubs are required

RNs must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed

A pass/fail skills test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation

Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
