Are you the Mary Poppins type? Well, you don't have to be, but we are seeking a dedicated and passionate private Tutor/Teacher to provide a unique and customized educational experience to our children. We're building good citizens. We want to focus on all things true, good, and beautiful, while simultaneously living in a world that is oftentimes full of confusion and decay. You see, we are homeschoolers, but when we started this journey we had two children, and now we have six (four require teaching presently). It's not a lot to manage, plus our style is flexible, our curriculum relatively light (we hate unnecessary busy work), and with the right help, together we can shape the lives of future workers and leaders of this community.
When you have one child in junior high, multiple children at elementary school age, and some children below elementary school age, it's time to ask for some help. This is where you step in... We are looking for someone that can work independently (after training, of course), appreciates good humor, knows something about the world but doesn't flaunt it, doesn't know everything about the world and doesn't hide it, asks themselves the hard questions of life, will operate under only general guidance at times, will follow step-by-step instructions at other times, can survive in the gray, and can support students of various ages (6, 8, 11, 13) in learning to do all of this as well.
The ideal candidate can take their pupils away from the home for a few hours and either into nature, the library, or an appropriate place in the public world, and observe real life while also learning the basic skills of the Three R's.
The ideal candidate will have some college education (although, no background in education is required), and have the ability to communicate effectively and adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners.
All curriculum and materials will be provided. Field trips, extra curriculars, and enrichment studies will be paid for by us, plus mileage if you elect to use your own vehicle.
The schedule may be flexible and depend upon activity/weather, but it sure would be nice to have the loud people out of the house during naptime. 4-5 days per week, and 3-5 hours per day.
Compensation will initially be commensurate with your fit for the job, and your KSAs, and ultimately will be established by the value of your performance and effectiveness. We'd like to make you a lifelong friend and let you teach even our youngest children as they grow up to the requisite age for learning.
Duties
- Develop individualized lesson plans tailored to each student's learning style and academic goals.
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions in subjects such as math, reading, writing, and science.
- Utilize learning technology and educational resources to enhance the tutoring experience.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage improvement.
- Assist students in developing effective study habits and classroom management skills.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress and areas for improvement.
- Support students with special education needs by employing appropriate teaching strategies.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and motivation.
Requirements
- Driver's license, or a bicycle, or good walking shoes.
- Can tolerate farm animals.
- Can competently teach at least basic reading, writing, and math.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with students and parents (that's me).
- A commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning atmosphere for all students.
