Position:
PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Position Description:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the payroll processing of the company, including the accurate and timely entry of payroll related items to produce paychecks in accordance with union agreements. The Payroll Specialist will process a high volume of union payroll transactions within a relatively short window of time to meet the imposed deadlines.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Major areas of responsibility include:
- Managing and executing the full union payroll cycle, ensuring accurate and timely processing, which includes reviewing and auditing of payroll
- Effective and frequent communication with field personnel
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state and local wages and hour laws, tax regulations and internal policies
- Managing the calculation and documentation of all necessary payroll data including personal information, employee details, pay rates and deduction information
- Research and resolve payroll issues and respond promptly to all payroll related questions from employees. Efficiently communicate, uphold and explain policies to employees
- Process off-cycle payments and manual checks
- Developing ad-hoc reports for financial analysis
- Certified Payroll
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
- Organized with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks
- Excellent time management skills with ability to process a large volume of entries under a short deadline
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to resolve issues quickly
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and act in a sense of urgency.
- Punctuality and good attendance are a must
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, assume responsibility and display initiative and exercise good judgment
- Excel experience required
- Spectrum Software experience preferred
- Union payroll experience preferred
