Overview
Join our dynamic team as a Water Operator/Laborer and play a vital role in maintaining and operating water treatment and distribution systems. Duties
- Operate and monitor water treatment facilities, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS), wells, booster stations, chemical feed systems, and storage tanks to ensure optimal performance
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment, pumps, valves, pipelines, hydrants, meters and backflow devices; perform maintenance and repairs as needed
- Read, install, and repair residential/ commercial meters, assist with water system flushing, leak detection, and pressure testing
- Assist with heavy equipment operation (backhoe, dump truck, compactors, skid loader, mini excavator) during construction projects or system upgrades, ensuring safety protocols are followed
- Excavate and repair water main breaks, service lines, valves, and hydrants
- Collect, record, and analyze data related to water quality, flow rates, chemical levels, and system performance
- Work site restoration including but not limited to backfilling, compaction, and resurfacing
- Perform daily water quality testing( chlorine, turbidity, pH, etc.) and maintain accurate records along with collecting water samples for laboratory analysis to maintain and ensure local, state, federal, and health compliance
- Respond to water quality complaints and emergency calls including after hours as needed
- Adjusting chemical feed rates based on testing results and operational needs
- Assist with keeping the water plant and surrounding property neat, clean, and presentable (grounds. equipment, vehicle, etc.) This includes mowing, weed- eating, etc.
- Qualifications
- Highschool diploma or GED (Required)
- 1-2 years of experience in water utility operations, construction, or public works
- Completion of an approved water operator training program
Licenses
- Valid Drivers License (Must have)
- Class C,E Water License with subclasses 6,7,8,11 (Preferred)
- Equipment Operator (Preferred)
Skills & Competencies
- Basic knowledge of water treatment processes, plumbing, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read maps, blue prints, and technical manuals
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
