Currently, we are looking for a Business Development Specialist in our Detroit or Chicago office. In addition to our Detroit and Chicago offices, we have offices in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills, Kalamazoo, and Washington D.C. The Business Development Specialist (BDS) will support the Business Development Managers in their pursuit of new client opportunities, expanding relationships with existing clients, contributing to cross-selling efforts, achieving business plan objectives, and elevating the public profile of their assigned practice groups. The BDS will work collaboratively with Department Chairs, Practice Group Leaders, individual lawyers and client teams on business development strategy and day-to-day needs. The BDS will also be responsible for business development special projects and duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Practice Group Support
- Draft client-specific presentations, proposals, RFP/RFI responses, and other client-facing materials.
- Support all aspects of the submissions process for directories (Chambers and other related submissions) as well as league table rankings, directories, submissions, and rankings.
- Support any research or competitive intelligence requests related to pitch opportunities.
- Track completed matter/deal details and manage the firm’s experience in DealCloud as well as related client pitch repository.
- Assist in managing multiple competing priorities and projects while establishing solid working relationships with Practice Group Leaders and Partners across the assign departments.
- Attend and support Practice Group and Department meetings and initiatives.
- Support business development plans on an individual partner basis as well as overall practice or department plans.
- Track and provide metrics and analytics related to the assign departments’ business development activity to Department Chair and Practice Group Leaders. Also, support any needed budgetary tracking or analysis.
- Maintain experience database of significant matters.
- Continue to advance strategic thinking skills and presentation capabilities.
- Work with Business Development Managers and attorneys to develop ideas, to draft and edit communications to clients and targets (e.g., newsletters, alerts, event invitations, brochures, articles) and help guide the production of these materials.
- Handle Business Development Department special projects and additional duties as assigned.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with other Honigman Departments including IS, Finance, Human Resources and Attorney Development and Recruitment and appropriate external resources, particularly the public relations firm.
- Provide support for larger team initiatives, including high-level firm presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing (or related discipline).
- Prior experience in a marketing or business development function at a law firm or professional services firm preferred.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Must be persuasive and demonstrate active listening skills.
- Must have a strong client service orientation.
- Ability to effectively work within our environment and engage the departments, practice groups, and individual attorneys to increase the value delivered to clients and the firm.
- Knowledge of business planning and targeting programs at the department, practice group, and individual partner level.
- Demonstrated project management and event management experience.
- Ability to work well with multiple deadlines, innovative problem solving and prioritization skills.
- Experience with marketing information systems and use of technology driven communication experience. Social media experience is highly desirable.
- Must be a problem solver, willing to work and think energetically and independently and to accept responsibility for producing work that is consistently complete, timely, effective, and error-free.
- Must demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to innovative ideas and to novel approaches.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate level of discretion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and InterAction CRM. Must have strong overall technology skills and demonstrate a willingness to learn new applications as they become commercially available.

Pay Range and Compensation Package
Honigman provides a generous total compensation package, which includes comprehensive health and well-being benefits, as well as 401k and profit sharing. The anticipated annual pay range for this role is $62,000 to $72,000 (non-exempt). The actual offered pay rate will be determined based on various factors, including qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and internal equity considerations.
