Assistant Manager — Comic Book & Toy Store Position Summary
The Assistant Manager supports the Store Manager in the daily operation of the comic book and toy store. This role helps deliver excellent customer service, maintain an engaging store environment, manage inventory, support sales, and supervise employees while promoting comics, collectibles, toys, games, and related merchandise.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager with daily opening and closing procedures.
- Supervise, train, and support sales associates and part-time staff.
- Provide knowledgeable and enthusiastic customer service to comic, toy, collectible, and gaming customers.
- Help customers locate products, make recommendations, and answer questions about comics, toys, games, collectibles, and merchandise condition.
- Operate the point-of-sale system, handle cash, process payments, issue refunds, and resolve customer concerns.
- Support sales goals, promotions, loyalty programs, pre-orders, subscriptions, and special offers.
- Receive, unpack, price, tag, and display new merchandise.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with stock counts and cycle counts.
- Monitor high-value, rare, limited-edition, and collectible merchandise.
- Organize back-stock areas and ensure products are properly displayed and easy to find.
- Help maintain attractive, clean, safe, and organized sales floors, displays, showcases, and event areas.
- Assist with comic pull lists, subscriptions, special orders, holds, and customer notifications.
- Help evaluate trade-ins, used merchandise, collectibles, and customer purchases according to store policies.
- Support the buying, merchandising, and pricing of comics, toys, trading cards, statues, figures, games, and related products.
- Assist with store events such as release days, tournaments, signings, cosplay events, demonstrations, and community activities.
- Monitor loss prevention, security procedures, shoplifting risks, and proper handling of valuable merchandise.
- Ensure employees follow company policies, customer-service standards, and cash-handling procedures.
- Prepare sales, inventory, staffing, and operational reports as requested.
- Act as the manager on duty when the Store Manager is unavailable.
- Perform other duties necessary for the successful operation of the store.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous retail, supervisory, or assistant management experience.
- Strong interest in comics, toys, collectibles, games, or pop culture.
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a small retail team.
- Comfortable using cash registers, inventory systems, and basic computer programs.
- Strong organizational and merchandising abilities.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Ability to lift and move boxes or merchandise, typically up to 30–50 pounds.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
Pay: $16.00 per hour
