American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Labor & Delivery position requiring at least 2 years of high-volume L&D experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a high-risk maternity hospital setting
-
Unit averages over 300 births per month with 20 births in 24 hours and 30-40 admissions daily
-
Handles 40 visits per day across 20 rooms with a 2:1 patient ratio
-
Cares for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as some high-risk patients under 16 weeks
-
Includes an obstetrical triage unit for pre-admission screening and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
-
Performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures

Double labor assignments occur daily on this unit

Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 18:45 to 07:15

Requires working every other weekend, minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule

Floating required as needed within the specialized high-risk OB unit

No on-call requirements

Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR charting systems

Contract length flexible from 13 to 26 weeks

Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
-
Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required, 3 years preferred
-
Required certifications: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP; AWHONN Advanced preferred (C-EFM accepted in lieu of AWHONN)

Experience in a high-volume facility with more than 300 births per month required
-
Skilled in circulating for C-sections, performing sterile vaginal exams, and competent in immediate newborn care

Epic charting system experience required

Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and infant/neonatal arrest response
-
Skilled in antepartum care, triage of obstetrical patients, pain management, and IV therapy/phlebotomy
-
First-time travelers considered if they have experience in a large, high-volume similar setting
-
Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care in a very fast-paced, high-acuity unit
-
Unit orientation totals 24 hours, with additional online modules required pre-start and annually
-
Scrubs are provided in blue
-
Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays

RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
-
Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
-
Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
-
Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
-
Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel contract status, not both
-
This unit is considered difficult and fast-paced, and shorter contract lengths (such as 48 hours) may not be realistic given patient volume
