Bluffton Electric is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to serve as the operational leader of our field organization. This is a high-impact leadership role for an accomplished electrical professional who is passionate about quality workmanship, team development, accountability, and operational excellence.
As our Technical Manager, you will work directly with the owner and serve as the primary leader of field operations. You'll oversee field supervisors, project execution, quality control, scheduling, workforce planning, and technical standards across the organization. What You'll Do
Lead Field Operations
- Provide day-to-day leadership for field supervisors, crews, and technicians.
- Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
- Develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Ensure Quality & Technical Excellence
- Serve as the company's primary technical authority for electrical installations and field operations.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and quality reviews.
- Ensure compliance with NEC requirements, safety standards, and local regulations.
- Identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
Drive Project Success
- Oversee technical execution of active projects from startup through completion.
- Partner with Project Managers to resolve field challenges, scope issues, and technical concerns.
- Monitor project quality, scheduling, client satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain visibility into all active projects and proactively address risks.
Improve Systems & Processes
- Develop and implement field procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Ensure crews maintain professional, organized, and well-equipped vehicles and job sites.
- Utilize FieldEdge and other operational tools to improve scheduling, communication, and accountability.
- Help build scalable systems that support continued company growth.
Resource & Workforce Planning
- Coordinate labor allocation, subcontractor scheduling, and equipment availability.
- Assist with workforce planning, succession planning, and future hiring needs.
- Oversee company fleet maintenance and operational readiness.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of electrical field experience
- 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of NEC code requirements, OSHA standards, and electrical best practices
- Proven ability to manage multiple crews, priorities, and projects simultaneously
- Strong communication, coaching, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work closely with ownership as a trusted operational leader
Preferred Qualifications
- South Carolina Journeyman or Master Electrician license preferred
- Experience as a General Manager, Director of Field Operations, Operations Manager, or similar leadership role within an electrical or skilled trades organization
- Experience building high-performing teams and accountability systems
- Familiarity with FieldEdge or similar field service management software
- Experience developing SOPs, operational processes, and quality standards
