Volunteers of America Puerto Rico (VOA-PR) works to strengthen the health and well-being of older adults and vulnerable populations by addressing both medical and social needs. Through our Community Health Worker (CHW) program, we provide personalized support that connects people with healthcare, social services, and daily living resources. Our CHWs, recruited from the communities they serve, build trusted relationships that reduce isolation and improve quality of life. They help individuals navigate healthcare systems, manage appointments, understand treatment plans, and access services such as food, housing, and transportation. Just as importantly, they offer encouragement, companionship, and a steady presence for those who often feel overlooked. The program also develops future leaders in health and human services. CHWs receive training, mentorship, and hands-on experience that prepare them for careers serving their communities. This dual mission—supporting today’s needs while preparing tomorrow’s workforce—creates lasting value for Puerto Rico. VOA-PR combines compassionate care with community-based solutions to deliver practical, trusted support that helps people live healthier, more connected lives.
