PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide technical brood maintenance support to ensure all brood systems and equipment operate safely, reliably, and efficiently under the direction of the Brood Maintenance Foreperson.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of brood systems including feed systems, lighting systems, heat and cooling systems, and related equipment.
- Install, adjust, and connect electrical and pneumatic brood equipment.
- Conduct plumbing repairs and installations as needed.
- Use electrical diagnostic tools (multi-meters, voltage testers, amp meters, temperature sensors) to evaluate and resolve equipment issues.
- Operate brood maintenance tools such as hand tools, drill motors, sawzalls, cordless drills, trenchers, tiger hoes, and other required equipment.
- Maintain and repair natural gas systems, LP gas vaporizers, fogger systems, well and water systems, lighting, feed systems, injectors/medicators, and pneumatic temperature control systems.
- Read and apply mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic blueprints/schematics for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment.
- Assist in training Brood Maintenance Mechanics (Class C) and provide guidance on proper maintenance procedures.
- Maintain compliance with safety, sanitation, disease-control, and housekeeping standards while performing duties.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including general cleaning and assisting other maintenance crews.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of one year of relevant training and/or experience.
- Ability to pass the Brood Maintenance Mechanic Level B test.
- Ability to complete assignments efficiently, accurately, and within required timeframes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to work from ladders and elevated positions.
Must have and maintain a valid California driver’s license with an acceptable DMV record.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including cold, heat, and dusty environments.
