Summary
Design, code, implement, and test simulation software for simulator training devices and other similar applications that satisfy specified operational, performance, and interface requirements. Responsible for software development lifecycle, including design, development, integration, verification, and documentation tasks, while adhering to budget and schedule constraints.
A signing bonus of up to $5,000.00 is available for this position.
Essential Functions

- Review program specifications and applicable standards with project and systems engineers to identify and evaluate interface requirements between software and hardware.
- Analyze operational and performance requirements of the overall system and conceptualize candidate top-level software design approaches that comply with project requirements.
- Identify and manage technical risks proactively to mitigate potential issues and control costs.
- Develop detailed software designs via analyses, elaboration, and decomposition of top-level interface, operational, and performance requirements.
- Write software code that complies with detailed design specifications using C, Fortran, and/or other high order programming languages. Utilization of the Linux Operating System.
- Perform subsystem implementation test, integration test, and acceptance test of design products to ensure quality and compliance.
- Troubleshoot software issues to diagnose and resolve problems effectively.
- Participate in installation, acceptance, and delivery of training devices to various world-wide locations.
- Coordinate with Program Management, Software, Hardware, and Manufacturing personnel as necessary to accomplish development, design, and production of the project.
- End products will consist of proposals, reports, specifications, design documents, source code, and test procedures as required for the subject project.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Travel
Approximately 25% travel is expected for the position. Travel occurs throughout the United States and occasionally internationally. Travel is typically overnight and often includes weekends.
This may include visits to customer sites for system acceptance testing and user training, with travel durations ranging from a few days to several weeks. Flexibility in working hours during travel is essential to meet project and customer needs.
A valid passport, along with the ability to comply with any necessary visa requirements, may be required.
Expected Hours of Work
A standard 40-hour workweek, Monday to Friday, is expected for the position. Flexibility and responsibility to work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines and client requirements. Position occasionally requires work on holidays, weekends, and shifts.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Technical supervision. No administrative supervision responsibilities. Key responsibilities that contribute to team development and project success include:
- Peer reviewing technical work of team members and providing constructive feedback to ensure adherence to design specifications and project requirements.
- Providing technical mentorship and guidance to entry engineers, fostering skill development and best practices within the team.
- Collaborating among team members to ensure effective communication and knowledge sharing throughout the development lifecycle.
- Assisting in the onboarding and training of new team members, ensuring they are well-versed in project methodologies and technical standards.
- Supporting project leads in monitoring team performance and progress, offering insights and recommendations to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent; or 3 years related, practical experience, preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 18 months of simulation industry experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level typically results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the duties, responsibilities, and requirements listed.
Background must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the sciences underlying software engineering.
Citizenship
U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance.

Computer Skills
Solid Technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications are essential. Experienced and proficient in the use of standard personal computer software tools, including word processors, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, Virtual meetings, team collaboration software, project tracking, and databases.
Ability to develop and debug computer source code and application software written in various languages such as C/C++/C#, Python, Fortran, and Ada. Ability to quickly learn new programming languages. Ability to use software and data configuration management tools such as GIT and Subversion. Usage of both Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating Systems. Solid understanding of computer networking concepts. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Experience with software application development environments is preferred.
Proficient in planning, coordinating, and booking travel airfare, hotel accommodations, and rental cars.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to identify and define problems, gather and analyze relevant data, establish facts, and draw valid, logical conclusions.

- Climb, crouch, and crawl: Accessing simulator components in areas that cannot be accessed in sitting or standing position.

- Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic). Occasionally the work environment can be loud due to equipment operating near test benches and training devices.

- Occasionally exposed to cold server equipment rooms or hot unconditioned simulator bay.
- May occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, electrical hazards, moving machinery, and vibration.
