Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility using safe lifting practices and equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide specialized care for patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, utilizing memory care techniques and behavioral health strategies.
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheter care, phlebotomy, and basic wound care following aseptic techniques.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams in settings like hospitals (including ICU and trauma centers), long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, and home care environments.
- Ensure safe patient transfers using appropriate methods and equipment while adhering to manual handling protocols.
- Document patient interactions thoroughly in medical records or electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems) for accurate medical documentation.
- Support patients with complex needs including those requiring hospice or palliative care, ensuring comfort and dignity at all times.
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse populations such as geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring behavioral health support.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and critical care procedures including ICU or Level I Trauma Center experience.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation and patient record management.
- Strong caregiving communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while following safe lifting practices; experience with manual handling equipment like Hoyer lifts is preferred.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols including aseptic technique and infectious disease care standards.
- Certification in basic life support (BLS) or CPR; additional certifications such as Phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous.
- Experience working within medical-surgical units, outpatient clinics, or post-acute care settings enhances your versatility as a CNA.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations while managing sensitive medical records securely.
