Job Summary
As a Community Advocate Worker, you are the frontline operational and supportive backbone of our women’s residential transition home. Our agency specializes in providing a secure, rehabilitative environment for women recovering from substance use disorders and managing mental health diagnoses, including residents transitioning directly through the Kansas City WIN (Wellness INitiative/Women In Need) Court system. In this role, you will provide trauma-informed, client-centered support, ensuring daily facility operations run smoothly while actively assisting these women in navigating their recovery, court compliance, and transition back into the workforce and community.
Responsibilities
- 1. Client Advocacy & Support (Recovery & Milestone Management)
- Serve as a primary point of contact for female residents during assigned shifts, fostering a physically and psychologically safe, trauma-informed environment.
2. Transportation & Community Navigation
- Logistical Support: Safely operate agency or personal vehicles (as designated) to transport women to critical off-site appointments.
- Court & Clinical Integration: Drive residents to mandatory WIN Court appearances, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), mental health counseling, drug screening facilities, and substance use recovery meetings.
- Workforce Mapping: Transport residents to job interviews and employment sites, and assist them in learning the Kansas City public transit system for long-term independence.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs, including mileage, vehicle inspection checklists, and destination tracking for compliance and liability purposes.
3. Facility Operations & Shift Management (1st & 2nd Shift)
- 1st Shift Focus: Facilitate morning routines, ensure residents are prepared and on time for daily clinical programming or employment, and coordinate daytime facility maintenance.
- 2nd Shift Focus: Manage afternoon and evening activities, facilitate residential house meetings, ensure curfews are met, and oversee evening facility lockdown and security protocols.
- Conduct regular health, safety, and contraband sweeps of the property to ensure the facility meets agency, state, and court-mandated compliance standards.
4. Documentation & Compliance
- Complete accurate, objective shift notes and incident reports using the agency’s centralized database before the end of each shift.
- Track resident attendance, coordinate closely with case managers regarding WIN Court compliance metrics, and strictly monitor medication lock-box access for psychiatric and standard prescriptions.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA and state regulations regarding resident medical, legal, and personal information.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 1+ years of experience in human services, behavioral health, residential care, or addiction recovery is strongly preferred. Experience working with justice-involved women or specialty courts (like WIN Court) is a significant advantage.
- Transportation Credential: Must possess a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation. (Chauffeur or Class E license is a plus).
- Schedule Flexibility: Demonstrated ability to work 1st and 2nd shifts, including potential weekend rotations, to ensure 24/7 facility coverage.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, ability to maintain firm professional boundaries in a recovery setting, and proficiency in basic data entry.
- Clearances: Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, state registry screening, and required drug screenings.Skills
- Assist residents in executing their individualized recovery and transition plans, including daily routines, coping-skills development, and goal setting.
- Utilize active listening and de-escalation techniques to manage interpersonal conflicts or mental health/behavioral crises within the residential facility.
- Monitor resident activity to ensure strict compliance with house rules, curfews, sobriety standards, and safety protocols.
- Strong knowledge of child protective services protocols and child welfare practices
- Experience working with children in diverse settings, demonstrating patience and empathy
- Proven ability in crisis intervention and crisis management techniques
- Excellent conflict management skills to mediate disputes effectively
- Familiarity with social work principles, behavioral health strategies, and family law procedures
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion while maintaining a positive attitude
- Effective communication skills to build trust with children, families, and community partners
