Job Description: The Manufacturing Engineer and Department Manager is a role that balances departmental leadership with direct engineering execution. This individual will lead and mentor a team of engineers while continuing to directly support all aspects of production, identifying and implementing measures for cost savings and manufacturing process improvements.
Primary technical responsibilities will include proposing, developing, and assisting with manufacturing processes, as well as drawing and updating CAD models, drawings, and assemblies to assist operations. Managerial duties involve resource allocation, project oversight, and team development. A successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a team environment, excels at multi-tasking, and maintains a strong, hands-on presence on the shop floor. This is a full-time position and is not eligible for remote work.
Responsibilities:
Engineering & Production Support:
- Draw, review, and update part models and drawings.
- Design and aid in the production of workholdings, fixtures, jigs, tooling, and machines.
- Drive process engineering initiatives—streamlining and standardizing specific manufacturing processes.
- Lead problem-solving efforts (researching, understanding, improving) for various manufacturing engineering issues.
- Perform project management responsibilities for assigned manufacturing changes and project startups.
- Design, develop, and implement equipment improvement ideas.
- Monitor and improve tooling and fixtures of specific projects to meet productivity and quality standards.
- Utilize Lean manufacturing tools to identify opportunities for cost reduction and manufacturing process improvements
Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the manufacturing engineering team.
- Manage departmental workflow, prioritize projects, and allocate resources effectively to meet production goals.
- Conduct performance reviews, set departmental objectives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience working in an engineering role in a production manufacturing setting, with at least 2+ years of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or management capacity.
- Proven ability to operate as a "working manager" (capable of leading a team while executing high-level engineering tasks).
- Direct experience with CNC machining in a production environment is required (e.g., CNC turning, milling, multi-axis machining, and specialized material removal processes).
- Full understanding of GD&T standards.
- Knowledge of key engineering systems (Lean, VSM, ECN, Kaizen, PFMEA, APQP, OEE, Poka-yoke, Six Sigma).
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills to document improvement efforts and lead a team.
Pay: From $125,000.00 per year
