Job Summary
Iconic Tours is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic with hands-on experience servicing and repairing Gillig transit buses. We operate a fleet of Gillig buses used for sightseeing operations throughout New York City and are looking for a mechanic who can diagnose problems quickly, perform quality repairs, and keep our fleet operating safely and reliably.
If you have experience working on Gillig buses equipped with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or International (DT530) engines, Allison transmissions, and heavy-duty electrical and hydraulic systems, we'd like to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair Gillig transit buses.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections.
- Troubleshoot diesel engines, electrical systems, air systems, hydraulics, and cooling systems.
- Repair steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and drivetrain components.
- Diagnose engine performance issues using diagnostic software and scan tools.
- Repair hydraulic fan systems, power steering systems, and cooling systems.
- Perform engine, transmission, differential, and axle repairs.
- Troubleshoot electrical shorts, charging systems, relays, sensors, and multiplex wiring.
- Complete road tests and verify repairs.
- Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
- Ensure all buses meet DOT safety standards before returning to service.
- Respond to occasional roadside breakdowns when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience.
- Direct experience working on Gillig buses is strongly preferred.
- Experience with:
- Cummins diesel engines
- Detroit Diesel engines
- International DT530 engines
- Allison automatic transmissions
- Air brake systems
- Hydraulic steering and cooling systems
- Electrical diagnostics
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals.
- Valid driver's license required.
- CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement is a plus (not required).

Compensation
- Competitive pay based on experience.
